Clinical Evidence
A 6-week, randomized, open-label, active-controlled clinical trial evaluated the efficacy of CurQfen against a standard combination of glucosamine hydrochloride (GLN) and chondroitin sulfate (CHN) in subjects with OA. The study involved 84 participants, with 72 completing the trial.
Participants received either 400 mg of CurQfen once daily or 500 mg GLN and 415 mg CHN twice daily. Efficacy was assessed at baseline, day 28, and day 42, using various measures of joint health, including walking performance, Visual Analog Scale (VAS) for pain, Knee Pain Scale (KPS), and the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Arthritis Index (WOMAC) (Thomas et al., 2020).
The results demonstrated that CurQfen outperformed the glucosamine-chondroitin combination in key metrics. CurQfen led to a 47.02% improvement in VAS scores, a 21.43% increase in KPS, and an impressive 206% enhancement in walking performance. Additionally, it produced significant improvements in WOMAC scores: 31.17% for pain, 32.93% for stiffness, and 36.44% for physical function. These outcomes were further supported by a notable reduction in serum inflammatory markers (Thomas et al., 2020).
In contrast, the high-dosage glucosamine-chondroitin combination yielded lower improvements across the same measures. This trial indicates that short-term supplementation with low-dose CurQfen offers superior benefits in alleviating joint discomfort and improving physical function compared to the higher-dosage glucosamine and chondroitin treatment (Thomas et al., 2020).
Mechanisms of Action
CurQfen supports joint health by addressing key inflammatory pathways, including COX-2 and cytokine modulation. COX-2 is an enzyme involved in producing prostaglandins, which play a role in normal inflammatory responses (Sethi et al., 2022).
