From PK to Bodily Comfort: Tenzara™ Explored

Introducing Tenzara™, a new and clinically substantiated combination of two legendary Ayurvedic botanicals, delivering a robust matrix of curcuminoids, boswellic acids, and synergistic volatiles to support daily comfort and mobility.

Why Back Health Matters

Lower back pain refers to discomfort located between the lower edges of the ribcage and the buttocks. For some, the pain is temporary; for others, it becomes chronic and life-altering. It affects people of all ages, men, women, adults, and even children (World Health Organization, 2023).

One of the key challenges with lower back pain is how it impacts daily life. Meaning everything from reading and driving to simply working or moving, even a simple sneeze can throw someone out of whack! Over time, this discomfort can limit a person’s ability to engage with work, play, and loved ones.

And the numbers speak for themselves: in 2020, lower back pain affected 619 million people globally, a figure expected to rise to 843 million by 2050 (Global Burden of Disease Study, 2021). It’s the most prevalent musculoskeletal condition worldwide and the leading cause of disability according to the World Health Organization. While anyone can be affected, cases peak between the ages of 50–55, with women being more commonly affected. Prevalence and disability burden are highest in older adults, especially those 80–85 years old, and recurrent episodes become more common with age (World Health Organization, 2023).

Managing Health

Effective treatment requires a multifaceted approach. Physical therapy to build muscle strength and restore mobility is key, along with adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes regular exercise, supporting mental well-being, getting quality sleep, avoiding tobacco use, improving diet, and managing weight when necessary (World Health Organization, 2023). Additionally, the American College of Physicians recommends that physicians and patients manage acute or subacute lower back pain with non-drug therapies such as superficial heat, massage, acupuncture, or spinal manipulation, according to their 2017 evidence-based clinical practice guideline (American College of Physicians, 2017)

While medications like opioids can relieve symptoms, they’re no longer considered first-line treatment due to the risks of dependency and side effects, and are now viewed as a last-resort option for treatment (American College of Physicians, 2017). This opens the door for natural, plant-based alternatives that contribute to an anti-inflammatory diet, like Tenzara, a highly bioavailable curcumin + boswellia complex that offers fast-acting, clinically substantiated support for those seeking holistic options.

Introducing Tenzara™: A Dynamic Duo for Musculoskeletal Comfort

Tenzara blends two legendary Ayurvedic botanicals: curcumin from Curcuma longa and a full-spectrum Boswellia serrata extract that retains all six boswellic acids plus its native volatile oil into one unique complex powered by FenuMat® delivery technology. This advanced combination delivers a robust matrix of curcuminoids, boswellic acids, including AKBA (acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid), and synergistic volatiles to support daily comfort and mobility.

How FenuMat® Technology Makes the Difference

One of the biggest hurdles in utilizing curcumin and boswellia is poor absorption and rapid metabolism into less effective forms. Their ‘free’ (unconjugated) bioactive forms are essential for optimal therapeutic impact, but standard formulas often fall short due to rapid conjugation (i.e., glucuronidation and sulfation) in the gut and liver.

Tenzara, powered by Akay’s patented FenuMat delivery system, overcomes these challenges.  This unique complex combines curcumin and boswellia actives with fenugreek-derived soluble fibers (galactomannans) to significantly enhance the bioavailability of ‘free’ curcuminoids and AKBA.

According to clinical data from a preliminary formulation:

  • ‘Free’ curcuminoid bioavailability increased by 24.8x
  • AKBA bioavailability increased by 6.9x
  • Tenzara, which has been enhanced with sunflower lecithin and oil, is expected to deliver equal or greater bioavailability.
  • Allowing a once-daily 400 mg dose with powerful results (Abhilash et al., 2021, and Mamatha et al., 2025)

New Study Highlights

A recent randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study (105 participants over 28 days) demonstrated that this combination significantly improved pain, stiffness, neck disability scores, physical function, and quality of life (Mamatha et al., 2025).

Key Outcomes:

  • Noticeable relief within two weeks
  • BASDAI (physical function) scores:
A 25.5% greater reduction by day 14 and a 65.5% reduction by day 28 in the Tenzara group compared to placebo.
  • Neck, hip, and back pain:
    Reduced by 21.7% (day 14) and 76.1% (day 28)
  • General pain/swelling (other parts or joints):
    Reduced by 27% (day 14) and 66.5% (day 28)
  • Morning stiffness:
Reduced by 45.7% (day 14), reaching 70% reduction by day 28
  • Neck Disability Index(NDI):
  • ~ 29% reduction by week 2
  • 51% reduction by week 4, indicating meaningful improvement in daily function
  • Task-specific gains (vs. placebo):
  • Working difficulty: –26% (day 14), -45% (day 28)
  • Driving difficulty: -22% (day 14), -51% (day 28)
  • Reading difficulty: -17% (day 14), -53% (day 28)

Inflammation Modulation

The study also explored key inflammatory markers including NLRP3 (NOD-, LRR-, and pyrin domain-containing protein 3) a sensor in the innate immune system that is responsible for initiating inflammation via IL-1β and IL-18.

Key Outcomes:

  • NLRP3 levels decreased by 39.3%
  • IL-1β levels decreased by 59.3%
  • These reductions further support the role of this botanical duo in managing inflammation and promoting long-term comfort (Mamatha et al., 2025).

Formulation Versatility

Tenzara combines high bioavailability with clean-label potential. This hydrogel-based self-emulsifying technology allows for easy integration into multiple dosage forms, everything from capsules and tablets to trending formats like gummies, chocolates, and ready-to-mix drink powders.
