Why Sleep Matters
Sleep is not optional; it’s foundational to our safety, performance, and long-term health. - Wakefulness: Transition period before falling asleep.
- NREM1 (Light Sleep): Lasts 1–5 minutes; the body begins to relax, and brain activity slows. Accounts for about 5% of total sleep time.
- NREM2 (Deeper Sleep): Heart rate and body temperature drop; lasts ~25 minutes in the first cycle and increases in duration with each subsequent cycle. Makes up about 45% of total sleep time.
- NREM3 (Deepest Non-REM Sleep): The most restorative stage, essential for tissue repair, muscle growth, and immune function. Accounts for roughly 25% of total sleep time.
- REM Sleep: Critical for memory consolidation, emotional processing, brain development, and dreaming. Lasts ~10 minutes in the first cycle, extending up to an hour in the final cycle. Makes up about 25% of total sleep time (Patel et al., 2024).

This randomized, double-blind, active-controlled, crossover study assessed the efficacy and safety of ThymoDream (200 mg) compared to melatonin (5 mg) in healthy adults with non-restorative sleep. Outcomes measured included plasma melatonin, serum cortisol, actigraphy-based sleep quality and duration, and daytime sleepiness via the Epworth Sleepiness Scale (Frontiers in Sleep).
